Island Inductees BCABHOF

BC Boxing Hall of Fame Island Inductees: by Brian Zelley

The British Columbia Amateur Boxing Hall of Fame began in 2010 and by 2018 the hallhas compiled over 100 inductees including clubs and events. The two Island clubs inducted 
are the Campbell River Eagles and the Nanaimo Boxing clubs.

The names cover areas from Victoria to Gold River including inductees from 
Campbell River..

Some of the names include: George Nepper, Alan Brown, Brian Zelley, Don Orr jt.,  Eddie Haddad, Fred Desrosiers, Bert Wilkinson, Vic Murdoch, Gary and Steve Wood, Jack Snaith,
Clarke McLellan, Mickey Griffin. Rick Brough, Jeannine Garside, Teresa Taylor, and others.

The photo was taken in 1984 at the training centre in Burnaby, BC
which served as a training centre for the Canadian boxing Olympic team heading to Los Angeles.

Bob began his ofgicial role in boxing in the early seventies in Nanaimo.
Currently, Bob is a boxing coach in Nanaimo.





George Nepper was the founder of the Newcastle Boxing Club in 1963.
George also assisted along with John Ormandy to help Brian Zelley and Dan Wright
start the Nanaimo Boxing Club in 1971.

Eddy Haddad began boxing in Manitoba but was a navy boxer in Greater Victoria during his glory years.



Rick boxed and coached and became connected to Island boxing as a member of the militsry.  
Rick was an outstanding ring ofgicial and Island commissioner and help start the Ladysmith Boxing Club in the mid eighties.

 Mickey Grifgin joined the Nanaimo boxing club in the early seventies and
managed to gather many trubutes and awards. Later he would turn to cosching in Nanaimo and Victoria.

 In addition to the club, three of the early coaches have been inducted: Charles, George and Jim.
